welcome from the bureau I'm not a winter person at all - which is probably why I live in Nelson. I only had to take my umbrella to work about three times this winter! Nelson's temperate and reliable climate are just one of the factors that makes our place an ideal conference destination. Domestic guest nights for winter were up significantly this year on 2006, with business tourism contributing to that. June's figures were up 15.3% on the same month the previous year, with May experiencing similar growth. If you haven't had a meeting or conference in Nelson - give me a call on (03) 545 6854 or visit www.ConferencesNelsonNZ.com to find out what the country's sunniest place has to offer. I hope you enjoy our update, Looking for the perfect themed dinner to complete your conference, but not sure where to look? Well the mystery is solved thanks to new Nelson Convention Bureau members Theatre Alive and the Mudcastle. The professional theatre company and unique venue in the stunning Neudorf area (just over 30 mins' drive from Nelson City) have worked together on Murder Mystery evenings for years. Theatre Alive also offer Fawlty Towers, Austin Powers, Allo Allo, Rocky Horror and Night of the Stars shows. Visit www.theatrealive.co.nz and www.mudcastle.co.nz Nelson professional conference organisers onCue now offer tailor-made treasure hunts for team building events. Conference manager Julie Baxendine says the events allow a team to be at their competitive best but also strengthen the team bond and spirit. For an added element of challenge each team gets given a GPS to assist them on their quest. You don't have to conference on a weekend in Nelson to get Saturday Night Fever. If you want to ensure your delegates have a fun time, an illuminated dancefloor from Creative Occasions is sure to get them in the mood. Let Madsen Promotions add authenticity to the occasion with their Tribute to the Bee Gees performance. Visit www.CreativeOccasions.co.nz and www.madsenpromotions.co.nz for more information.

Bureau members World of WearableArt & Classic Cars Museum have joined forces with Nelson Bays Arts Marketing to present a 10-day exhibition in Wellington during the Montana WOW Season. The Re:fine exhibition will feature works by Nelson artists and WearableArt garments. Re:fine will be held at the Academy Gallery September 21-30. The exhibition is open 10am-5pm daily except Saturday 22, when it opens to the public at 1pm. Entry is $10 (including exhibition catalogue), with a half price preview day on Friday 21. The exhibition will give you a taste of what your delegates can see up close at the WOW Museum when they conference in Nelson, as well as the variety of art they can experience at Nelson galleries and studios of some of the 350 artists living in Nelson Tasman.
